Location, Location, Location May Determine Success with Microsoft Online IT Training
Researchers have been focusing their time on figuring out what exactly makes an online university or training course successful. They have studied content, scripts, and even quality of the video, but have been unable to determine what if anything

A group of researchers from the University of Florida may have discovered that what is on the training videos or college courses may not have an impact on success. Instead, success may be determined by where the student is located while taking the classes.
"We conducted our research using a Microsoft online IT training course", said Katie Oliver, a researcher from the University of Florida. "We asked various students who took part in this course to let us know where they watched the videos or courses. We then looked at their final test scores and used that to determine how successful the students were at the course."
It appears as if students who took the course in luxurious settings such as beaches, private offices, or study rooms were able to have more success than those that used a more social setting. Students who took their courses in crowded libraries, surrounded by family and friends, or in crowded coffee shops tended to score lower.
"I think there are two things working for these students", said Oliver. "The quieter setting allowed them to concentrate and get higher scores on their tests. I also believe those that took their courses on beaches or while on vacation had more motivation to do well because they were staying in a 'paradise'."
None of the participants in the study failed the course. There were just individuals who did better than others. Researchers wanted to know what influenced those students to do better.
"We will have to conduct more research and really keep looking into why some are successful and some aren't", said Oliver. "My goal is to be able to offer people with a solution that allows everyone to be successful."
The Microsoft online IT training course is a great study participant. Most students who sign up for this course want to succeed and are looking to further their careers in the IT industry. This means that all students are motivated to do well in the course.
"We will continue to use this Microsoft online IT training course as part of our study", said Oliver. "I think it was really helpful in gauging success to use the same course and that is what we'll do."
