Daughter Discovers Birth Mother While Attending Microsoft Online IT Training
Samantha Harrison has spent over eight years trying to find her birth mother. She has used adoption websites, tried looking on Facebook, and even interviewed friends and family members. She has been unsuccessful in her search for her birth mother.

"I decided about seven or eight years ago to find my birth mother", said Samantha Harrison. "I was been fairly unsuccessful in finding her. Imagine my surprise when it turned out that my birth mother joined the same Microsoft online IT training course I enrolled in."
The two had enrolled in a Microsoft online IT training course offered by a local community college. The course taught the students the basic fundamentals of how to use and work with Microsoft programs.
"I joined the course thinking I would learn about the essentials of Microsoft's programs", said Harrison. "I walked out of there with an entire family. It really was amazing."
The two women met through the course's forum. The forum is available for students to get to know each other, talk about the course, and interact with each other. The whole idea of the forum is to set up a classroom structure in an online setting.
"I noticed this one lady was talking about how she wanted to reconnect with her daughter", said Samantha Harrison. "The details that she gave corresponded to my information and we started to talk. Amazingly, we discovered that we might be related. We took the tests and the results showed that we were right."
The mother and daughter have arranged to meet each other at the completion of the course. Some people find it surprising that the two would meet in an online course like that. However, many psychologists and researchers have other opinions on the subject.
"It really is not that uncommon that people would sign up for the same class", said a psychologist. "Obviously, these family members shared the same interests and hobbies. So it isn't that surprising that they would sign up for the same online course."
This is not the first case of mothers and daughters meeting in online classes. In 2006, a mother and daughter met after being separated for over 15 years. They met through a chat program associated with the course.
"We really are happy that we have found each other", said Samantha Harrison. "I can't wait to meet her in real life. It'll be a real treat."
