There is increasing demand for devices that bridge the gap between tablets and notebooks. Two likely contenders are the Asus Transformer Prime and the Motorola Xoom 2.

The Motorola Xoom 2 is wifi only (there isn't any 3G connectivity in this model) and comes with Android 3.2 Honeycomb installed. There have been some upgrades since the original Xoom was released, a notable one being the reduction of its weight by 100 grams or so. There have also been improvements to the display, with a brighter screen showing better colours. It has been strengthened with Corning Gorilla Glass and a splash proof coating that means it stands up much better to the rigours of everyday life and is also stain resistant.

The Motorola Xoom 2 comes with 16GB of internal memory, while if you have bigger storage requirements you may want to opt for the Asus Transformer Prime, which has 32GB of memory - enough to hold plenty of photographs, videos and music.
Both devices feature Android 3.2, although the Asus is offered with a free upgrade to Android 4.0. Android 3.2 includes Google's Mobile services as well as its fully customisable and interactive interface. Gmail, Gtalk Maps, YouTube and much more are just a finger tap away.
The Motorola Xoom 2 has a 5 megapixel camera, complete with LED flash and autofocus, while there's a 1.3 megapixel camera on the front for video conferencing, Skype chatting and the like.
The Asus Transformer Prime, meanwhile, has an 8 megapixel camera on the back, again with autofocus and an LED flash, while on the front you will find a 1.2 megapixel camera.
In terms of battery life, the Motorola Xoom 2 can last for up to 10 hours on a single charge, excellent for business or social users on long train journeys, while the Asus Transformer Prime has an exceptional 18 hours of battery life using the dock.
Thanks to a powerful 1.2GHz processor, the Xoom 2 is capable of handling multiple tasks at once, while the Asus Transformer Prime will always keep up to speed with its Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor.
The key decision points between these two tablets will be storage capacity and whether you wish for 3G connectivity, or prefer to work with just wi-fi.
Clove Technology sells the Asus Transformer Prime Tablet for £499 including VAT and it comes in grey or champagne colour.
