Rising Rural Solid Waste Management Market in Vietnam

Population explosion along with rising awareness about waste generated diseases are backing the rural solid waste management market, which is expected to show a CAGR growth of around 7.5% during 2011-2015, says RNCOS.

Noida, India (prHWY.com) April 23, 2012 - Rural solid waste comprise of animal manure from the farmers' houses, crop residues, and residues of agro-chemicals. A significant share of rural solid waste in Vietnam is organic and easily degradable in the soil and most of the waste from agricultural cultivation is reused. The concept of "Craft villages" is also growing strongly in the country. Approximately, all households utilize their gardens and houses as a production place, with waste dumped directly into the nearby environment. These craft villages generated over 1 Million Tons of solid waste in 2005 and the generation is expected to double by 2015, according to a research report, "Vietnam Solid Waste Market Analysis", by RNCOS.

The rural solid waste management market is still largely untapped and waste collection and treatment is very low. At the regional front, the nature of reuse varies from the North to the South. In the Northern provinces, more agricultural wastes are used as fuel for cooking and heating, amid the colder climate. Rice straw, corn stems, sugar cane wastes, and other products are used as an important source of households fuels.

As per industry experts, wastage in the form of agricultural residues, such as straw, com cob, cassava, straw, rice husk, peanut, and coffee husk, etc. grew at a CAGR of more than 3%, whereas the animal waste registered a CAGR growth of over 2% during 2005-2010. Although a large amount of this waste was reused as living fuel, it is anticipated that in the coming years, the trend will continue to prevail and a large amount of rural solid waste will be reused for daily fuel use. The increasing population along with awareness about waste generated diseases will act as a growth catalyst for rural solid waste management market, which is expected to show a CAGR of around 7.5% during 2011-2015.
