The study, which was published in JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) reported that they looked at 30 years of data and found 6,783 traffic-related deaths on Tax Day, or 226 per day. Those startling numbers are compared to only 213 per day a week before and after the deadline.
Spokesperson for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, Russ Rader says "having more motorists on the road and drivers taking routes that are not in their everyday routines might make Tax Day riskier. Other research has said those factors, and sometimes alcohol use, may contribute to increases in traffic deaths on other days of the year".

Dr. Victor Marchione, Pulmonary Medicine expert chimed in, says he doesn't think this information should be taken with a grain of salt. Marchione says, "seeing a spike in fatalities in vehicles at any time of year is a cause for enormous concern. But the idea that tax day is showing so much of an increase should be given special significance."
The research cites drivers racing recklessly to the tax office to meet the tax deadline as being one of the major causes for concern in the results that were surveyed. It also cited stressing over taxes to be another main reason people should pay special attention to the research.
