Kickstarter Funds A Congo Expedition Documentary Project

Houston, TX, May 8, 2012- Kickstarter, known for funding various creative projects around the United States, now funds a new documentary project. The project name is "Killer Rewards," and it is a documentary expedition to Congo.

The project is being conducted by Stephen McCullah and he aims categorizing animal and plant species in the Republic of Congo, which is vastly unexplored. Through Kickstarter, he is seeking a little help of funding so that he and his team can attain their goal.

McCullah says, "We hope to discover diverse varieties of species along the way. We have come to know that Central Africa's Congo Basin area is bigger than Florida and 80% of it is still not explored. So, this project has huge potential and I am thankful to Kickstarter project for helping us with the funding."

On being asked why this project is important and what the prospects of its success are, McCullah explained that they have made thorough research before taking the plunge. Only a few expeditions entered these jungles in the last thirty years or so and these were not technologically advanced. However, the expeditions produced good results because of abundance of animal and plant life.

Operation Congo that took place between late 1985 and early 1986, is considered as a landmark. That mission was led by William Gibbon and other Englishmen and they discovered a new monkey subspecies, which was defined as Cerocebus galeritus or Crested mangabey monkey. They have also discovered specimens of many insects and fishes.

William Gibbon revisited the area in 2000 to research on Cameroon for an expedition to be conducted in the future. They got information of a mystery animal called Ngoubou by the locals, however, they identified it as a Styracosaurus, which was thought to be vanished.

"We are inspired by all these mysteries and possibilities of Congo and that is why we want to make this project the biggest in terms of wildlife discoveries", says McCullah. A camera crew will accompany the team through this expedition and the first trip is planned to be made into a reality show that will be telecasted either in Nat Geo or in Discovery.

McCullah and his team followed the guidelines necessary to get funding as a Kickstarter project. Kickstarter has made a few things clear such as a project must have a well defined goal and something should be coming out of it. Projects are not meant for starting any business or raising fund for charity. "Expedition to Congo is aimed to discover the unexplored arena of numerous animal and plant species and it is not being funded for charities. We think that the project has a viable aim and we are ready to play the role of funding platform for McCullah and his team," says a spokesperson of Kickstarter.
