Drinking arsenic containing water is not really safe
Hence, the study proved that the claims by the EPA regarding low levels of arsenic in water that formed the consumption limits are not necessarily safe as they may result in adverse health effects on mothers and their young ones.

The U.S EPA has stated that the drinking water containing low levels (10 parts per billion) of arsenic is safe for human consumption and non toxic in nature i.e.; such low levels of the chemical do not execute any negative health effects on humans.
Many previous studies carried out in this regard on mice have proved that the presence of low levels of this chemical in water can result in lessening of immune response thereby making them vulnerable to infection from the flu.
While, the current investigation led to the finding that water containing 10 ppb of arsenic chemical results in unfavorable effects on health in lactating as well as pregnant mice and is also found to have a negative consequence on their young ones as well.
Also, the exposure of this chemical in the early childhood and in utero resulted in far more grave health effects.
Dr. Joshua Hamilton, one of the lead authors of the study said that the pregnant and breastfeeding mice experienced changes in their lipid metabolism, which resulted in decreased levels of nutrients in their blood as well as breast milk.
And, these deficiencies in their nutrient requirements lead to the development and growth of various health defects in the young mice, which were still dependant on their mothers for their daily nutrient needs.
Arsenic was found to attack triglycerides (a fatty acid with a significant role in various biochemical metabolism) thereby lowering their levels below the normal limits in both, the mothers as well as the infants.
