Smoking whilst pregnancy linked to asthma in kids

The study proved that in case the women smoked during their pregnancy, the chances of the children acquiring uncontrolled asthma increased around 50%, despite being controlling the current exposure of the kids to tobacco.

Fontana, CA (prHWY.com) June 14, 2012 - 14 June 2012, USA (Realpharmacyrx.us): Recent studies have shown that the children of African-American as well as Latino women, who smoked during their stages of pregnancy, were more vulnerable to acquire acute asthma and its symptoms as those compared to the ones suffering from asthma with their mothers not smoking in their conceiving stage.
The study was carried out with around 2,500 children belonging to the African-American and Latino backdrop suffering from symptoms of acute asthma and those ranging between 8 - 17 years of age.
The mothers of these teenagers were found to smoke during their early stages of pregnancy, while some smoked all through the nine months. The various allied factors such as socioeconomic level, exposure to tobacco smoking in childhood and education being regulated.

Sam S. Oh, PhD, MPH at UCSF Center for Tobacco Research and Education and the lead author of the study said that most of the women who are pregnant quit smoking as their pregnancy advances further with the maximum of mothers achieving the target by the end of the first three months of pregnancy.
He further added that the mothers belonging to African-American and Latino race not only smoked regularly, but in turn also smoked till last stages of the pregnancy. Esteban Gonzalez Burchard, MD, MPH from the UCSF claimed that this could be the one of the main reasons responsible for higher rates of mortality of African-American caused due to asthma.
The results showed that around 13.8 % American mothers with nearly 18.8% and 6% women belonging to African-American and Latino respectively, smoked during pregnancy. Also, women quitting their smoking habit prior to their third and last stage of pregnancy were 35% and 29% respectively.
