A vaccine against cancer is on its way to the market

The discovery as well as testing of the novel vaccine for curing HPV-induced cancers has lead to striking results in lab and let's hope that this less-invasive, safe and effective therapeutic remedy proves to execute similar effect in humans.

Sydney, Australia (prHWY.com) June 25, 2012 - A synthetic vaccine that has been developed as well as tested against HPV-derived (Human Papilloma Virus) cancer was found to be quite effective in killing the virus, which is generally related to cervical cancer.
The human papillomavirus is reported to be the cause of around 250,000 deaths all over the world and in almost 99% cases, it is found to be the cause of cervical cancer. In addition to causing cervical cancer, this virus is also responsible for causing a wide range of genital, neck and head related cancers.

Despite being the availability of two effective and widely used HPV prophylactic vaccines that have been approved for a wide range of HPV strains, the fact that these vaccines can only prevent infections caused by HPV and the inability to treat HPV-derived cancers has led to the development of the current vaccine.
Esteban Celis, M.D., PhD and senior member of Moffitt's Immunology Program said that vaccines are comparatively safer and effective than the conventional medical therapies.
And, in an effort to generate an effective vaccine against HPV, the researchers designed a peptide-vaccination approach called TriVax-HPV with the aim of producing a greater number of Tc cells. When this vaccine was tested in lab mice afflicted with HPV16-induced tumors, a small synthetic fragment of the E7 protein of the drug resulted in 100% tumor clearance.
Barrios-Marrugo, researchers at Moffitt Cancer Center, who carried out the study, said that although the drug produced impressive results in lab mice, its response in humans is currently not clear.
Both the authors claimed that their investigation may pave a way for invention of less invasive and more efficient therapeutic approaches for treatment of HPV-associated cancers.
