Gold prices jump to 2-1/2 month highs:
Gold prices hit their highest since June 6 on Tuesday as the dollar slid to a six-week low against a currency basket and stock markets rallied, while platinum hit 3-1/2 month highs as unrest simmered at a mine in major producer South Africa. Spot gold hit a high of $1,638.30 an ounce was up 1 per cent at $1,636.24 an ounce at 1249 GMT. US gold futures for December delivery were up $15.80 at $1,638.70.
Oil rises to 3-month high before euro leaders' debt meetings:
Oil climbed to the highest in three months in New York as speculation European leaders meeting this week will make progress on the region's debt crisis supported prices against forecasts of rising supply in the US. Futures surpassed $97 a barrel for the first time since May 11. European leaders will hold meetings in Greece and Germany this week.
