CMMS Software Program Helps Small Town Avoid Bankruptcy
People are always complaining about ineffective their local government has become over the years. While many governments sit back and ignore these comments, one small town government in central Colorado has come up with a unique way to help them

"We have received several complaints from citizens worried that their local taxes and other items are not being spent as they should", explained Greg Peters, mayor or Hope River, Colorado. "What I came up with was a way to integrate our CMMS software program with checks and balances system that requires every branch to account for what they are or are not doing throughout the day."
Greg Peters worked with a local technology company to create a CMMS software program that would integrate this checks and balances system. What the software essentially does is it operates as a traditional CMMS software program. It alerts employees of the status of some of the machines and equipment that the city owns, it alerts them of inventory and other items the city needs to keep track of, but this software program does something different.
"What this software program does is it sort of administers a small test to the employees", said Peters. "There will be sometimes when the software program might say 'such and such' thing has no inventory left. However, if the employee was on top of thing he'd know that wasn't true. We're trying to essentially eliminate our complete reliance upon computers and make our employees effective workers of the city."
When the system was first in place the employees were a little confused.
"I was sitting and going through the CMMS software like I usually do when it alerted me that a certain part of our inventory was almost out of stock", said Tad Richards. "I knew that couldn't be the case as I had unloaded the stock last week. It was when I went back and saw the mayor there that I knew it was part of the new system."
The new system has gone over extremely well with the citizens of the town. They believe that this will allow them to see what employees are working and which ones aren't. Last year the city faced a major budget crisis that could have bankrupted the city. This is a way to prevent that.
"I saw employees just sitting there doing nothing", said an outraged citizen. "This checks and balances system really helps improve the employees' work ethic and makes me feel my tax dollars are going to a good cause."
