Manufacturers of hard disk drives (HDDs) are reducing the warranty they offer on these products from 5 years to 1 year.
(prHWY.com) January 30, 2012 - London, United Kingdom -- London, 30 January 2012 - Manufacturers of hard disk drives (HDDs) are reducing the warranty they offer on these products from 5 years to 1 year. The biggest manufacturers are unfortunately feeling compelled to take this step due to the cost aspect. They have observed a sharp decline in the quality of the current batch of HDDs. Developments over the past few months in Thailand - little or no production of HDDs due to the floods at the end of 2011 - appear to be the reason for this. Stellar Data Recovery, a specialist in the area of data recovery with offices worldwide, also believes the recent developments to be the cause and is finding that the quality of HDDs is no longer meeting the standards previously set.
Why are the HDDs of inferior quality?
As a result of the floods in Thailand in October and November 2011, local HDD manufacturers have been unable to produce any good-quality HDDs, or have only been able to produce them in very small numbers. This has resulted in a global grey market. It goes without saying that the quality of these grey HDDs may be called into question. This is an extremely negative development for the IT sector and it is the end user that is the main focus of the concerns.
Kees Jan Meerman from Stellar Data Recovery can already see a storm brewing for consumers: "Sooner or later users will be affected by this development. As a specialist in data recovery, Stellar can set users' minds at rest to some extent. Irrespective of the brand or warranty conditions, we are able to recover data that is thought to have been lost as quickly as possible from all hard drives that have crashed."
Stellar Data Recovery - advice for consumers
If manufacturers believe that they can save substantial costs in this way, it follows that HDDs will often have defects. In the past Stellar has always advised its customers and users to take the proper precautions, and it continues to do so. The current developments on the market and the emergence of the grey circuit clearly indicate that the recommendations of Stellar as a specialist in data recovery are not unfounded.
