A Norfolk furniture maker has been using his talents to help the Church of England come up with a new seating design for churches.

Faced with the problem of many churches removing Victorian pews in order to create more multi-functional space for modern communities, the C of E launched a competition to design a new style of church seating.

The brief was to create an ergonomic chair, seat or bench that would fit in with its historic surroundings, be robust and require minimal maintenance whilst also being comfortable, sympathetic to historic floors and lightweight enough to stack or fold neatly away.

Furniture designer and cabinet maker cabinetmaker, David J Paddison, who creates high quality bespoke furniturebespoke furniture for private customers and other furniture businesses, created a modern style chair made from Ash, which is pictured below.

Although his entry did not win the competition this beautiful new design is now available for sale. Please contact David for pricing information, but orders of 50 or more will benefit from a discount.

With its minimalist, elegant design, the chair would look equally at home in a historic interior or a more modern setting.

David Paddison is a member of the Norfolk Furniture Makers Association and creates beautiful pieces of furniture made to order in both traditional and contemporary styles. Some of his unique designs can be seen on the website at www.davidjpaddison.co.uk.
