MentorHealth to present webinar on "Understanding the Joint Commission Requirements on FMEA"
MentorHealth, a leading provider of online training for the healthcare industry, is organizing a webinar on November 13on the topic, "Understanding the Joint Commission Requirements on FMEA".
(prHWY.com) October 21, 2012 - Wilmington, DE -- "Understanding the Joint Commission Requirements on FMEA". It will be presented by Dev Raheja. Raheja is an MS, CSP who teaches "Quality Improvement Methods in Healthcare" for the BBA program in Healthcare Management at Florida Tech University.
Description:
Failure Mode and Effects (FMEA) has been in vogue for over half a century now in nearly all industries as a means to proactively predict and mitigate risks in order to prevent a lawsuit from happening. In the healthcare industry, the primary aim of FMEA is to deliver failure-free medical intervention.
This calls for application of standardized processes. However, this can be a little dicey in this industry, since in the areas in which FMEA is to be applied, such as heart surgery or other cardiac or other procedures, patient admission, patient release, or just about any other aspect; standardization is almost impossible. Why? Because the needs of each patient are unique, and each calls for a unique approach.
This is where the idea of applying standardized processes is challenging. How does a medical practitioner ensure that standardized processes were met? How does the professional make sure that the processes were reliable in accordance with the description of reliability given by Institute of Healthcare -namely "failure-free performance over time"?
This webinar shows the way forward. It shows how to plan FMEA in the healthcare environment, what to look for, and how to prevent risks. Participants will be able to use this tool to not only comply with the Joint Commission requirements but to also prevent harm.

The entire methodology suggested here consists of examples from health care. These include how to document, how to predict harm scenarios, how to identify and prevent quality problems and thus make health care a very reliable process. As a result of this set of tools, considered superior to Six Sigma; participants will be able to fix problems much more quickly and efficiently.
This webinar will cover the following areas:
