David Campbell Bannerman Against Plans For EU Social Security Role
"David Campbell Bannerman is one of the most experienced British MEPS. He is a Conservative MEP and represents the East of England. "
(prHWY.com) November 7, 2012 - Hardwick, United Kingdom -- United Kingdom ; 7th Nov 2012- One of the most outspoken British MEPS, and staunch eurosceptic, David Campbell Bannerman has spoken out against plans for the European Union to be given greater powers to dictate the administration of the welfare state in each of the member countries.

David Campbell Bannerman is a Conservative MEP from the UK who represents the East of England. In his long and illustrious career, he has held many noteworthy positions at the highest levels of the British Government and was also Special Adviser to Sir Patrick Mayhew who was the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland during the Irish Peace Process. David is a vocal critic of the European Union, which he regards as being anti-democratic, economically unworkable and destructive of the historic British identity.

David explains; "I don't believe the EU should be involved in social security matters. I think it is trespassing into national responsibilities and it seems to be a world away from the trade agreement that the EU is meant to be about. I am particularly concerned about some of the self-employment elements. I have been self-employed, I ran a consultancy, and in this report it refers to paying unemployment benefits to the self-employed, all around the EU."

The statement was made by David in response to the recent proposals by the EU which would see it become involved in the administration of welfare benefit payments in each of the member countries. The proposals, which David Campbell Bannerman voted against, included recommendations on pensions and self-employment and were openly debated at a session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

David went on to explain; "This again is undermining our flexible economy in Britain. When you are self-employed, you do things your own way, and it gives people a lot of freedom, and these proposals undermine that freedom. This report may be about technical matters but I'm totally against it on principle. The EU should keep out of social security, pensions and benefit matters."
