Gun Records destroyed by Canadian Government reports SafesGallery.com
Harper Conservatives Celebrate the End of the Long-gun Registry
(prHWY.com) November 20, 2012 - Us, NE -- San Francisco, CA- With the exception of court-protected files from Quebec, millions of records on registered long guns have been destroyed.

Currently, handguns in Canada must still be registered; this law has never changed over the past several decades. It is good to remind ourselves, as well as our neighbors, that it is each and every Canadian's duty to fully comply with gun legislation that has existed since 1934.

The debate over gun control has not been without its share of controversies and political debates. The destruction of the long-gun registry this week by the Harper Conservatives ended a debilitating and ongoing political chapter in which the supporters of Prime Minister Jean Chretien had heavily criticized long-gun owners in Canada.

Conservatives noted that Prime Minister Chretien made hunters and farmers feel like criminals, rather than law-abiding citizens As supporters of the Harper Conservatives stated, these hunters and farmers do not use their guns illegally or in ways that harm other individuals. Rather, their use of guns is entirely practical in nature, as farmers and hunters use these weapons to support their livelihood. They do not shoot innocent bystanders in public spaces like malls or schools; they abide by the law and are not law breakers.

Although it might seem rare today that politicians keep their promises, Prime Minister Stephen Harper kept one promise, as he used his 2011 majority to finally push through the political gridlock surrounding the issue of gun ownership. Conservatives state that Harper deserves nothing but praise.

The Harper Conservatives claim that liberals have a proclivity for wasting billions of dollars. For example, the HRDC scandal cost taxpayers a billion dollars, as did the national long-gun registry. The latter, Conservatives claim, did nothing to protect the public but did everything to diminish a traditional Canadian heritage in order to place tens of millions of dollars into government coffers.

The Public Safety Minister Vic Toews, Andrew McGrath, told a spokesman for told Sun Media, "We are making our streets and communities safer by targeting criminals who use firearms, not law-abiding Canadians. . . Make no mistake, the tax-and-spend NDP will not hesitate to bring back the long-gun registry. Now that this information has been deleted, it can never be recovered -- even by NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair."

It looks like, then, politicians fighting for stricter gun control laws have lost the battle for now. For conservatives, they say, put a tag on BIll C-19? It is as good as dead.
