Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), the government authority charged with regulating, coordinating and supervising all aspects of the maritime sector in Dubai, has announced plans to further expand the scope of the 2013 edition of 'Dubai Maritime Week' to be held in November 2013, building on the highly successful inaugural run this year of the first-ever maritime event in the region that drew to a close on November 30, 2012, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council.
DMCA revealed its plans during Dubai Maritime Week 2012, which was attended by high-profile government officials, industry professionals, experts, operators and ship owners from the UAE and across the region. DMCA further announced that it has already short-listed a number of maritime-related activities that will be featured in the 2013 edition of Dubai Maritime Week, including the Dubai Maritime Forum, Middle East Cruise Convention, SMEISA Presentation Dinner, Ship-recycling Conference and other events to be revealed at a later stage.
H.E. Sultan Bin Sulayem, Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone, said: "Dubai Maritime Week has given us a much better perspective of the sentiments and expectations of key players in the region's maritime industry. It gave us an opportunity to consolidate the latest trends, technologies, ideas, and best practices in the industry, and use this knowledge to address the most pressing challenges and explore new possibilities for growth and development."
"Building on the success of the inaugural event, Dubai Maritime City Authority is pleased to reaffirm its commitment to organize the Dubai Maritime Week 2013, which will certainly be much more comprehensive in scope. We are looking forward to once again collaborating with our strategic partners, including Seatrade Middle East and all the participants this year, as we aim to achieve more lofty goals for Dubai Maritime Week 2013", he added.
The inaugural Dubai Maritime Week 2012 was organized through the close cooperation between DMCA and Seatrade, along with the support of several government authorities and Dubai-based businesses. The event featured the 'Seatrade Middle East & Indian Subcontinent Awards' and 'Seatrade Middle East Maritime Exhibition & Conference', in addition to other dedicated events including the DMCA maritime workshop, Maritime Places of Refuge and Salvage Forum, Dubai Creek Conference and many other art and cultural programs to celebrate Dubai's rich maritime heritage.
The success of Dubai Maritime Week 2012 is not only attributed to the fact that it is the first-ever event to bring in such quality turnout in the Middle East, but also for being the result of mutual cooperation and efforts between various Dubai government authorities, including Dubai Municipality, Dubai Customs, Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing and DP World, in addition to the strong support provided by Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI).
