Google Dominates as the Top Search Engine for 2012
Google once again takes the lead as the top search engine as 2012 draws to a close, beating its competitors. It was, and apparently still is, the reliable go-to website for Internet searches for most netizens.
(prHWY.com) December 19, 2012 - Bristol, United Kingdom -- 2012 - A year of newsworthy Internet searches such as the Summer Olympics in London and the US presidential elections. And with the official report released by Internet analytics company, comScore, Google is revealed to be the reigning champion in the search engine category, beating fierce rivals Bing and Yahoo.

Figures from comScore reveal that the ubiquitous website took a record 67 percent market share for all search traffic since November. Google's performance across the board has been slowly but steadily improving despite the competition that Yahoo, Bing, Ask Networks, and AOL have been dishing out for the last eleven months.

Relative newcomer, Bing, from the Microsoft company settled for second place among the search engine rankings, but still showed great promise as the website increased their market share by 0.2 percent for a total of 16.2 percent. Yahoo, meanwhile, slipped down to 12.1 percent, as did Ask.com and AOL.com-both of which faced slight drops in their average market share to 3 percent and 1.7 percent, respectively.

The comScore statistics have shown a distinct user preference towards Google as the definitive search engine when it comes to providing top-quality results based on any specific keyword searches. Despite the lion's share Google has among Web users, Bing has been increasing its efforts to improve their search functionality while Yahoo has been holding steady with their site development for the past 16 months.

The numbers have defined new records for both Google and Bing, which reflect explicit core search volume; this does not include any contextually driven searches that do not conform to particular user intent to interact with the search results. November saw almost 17 billion explicit core searches, 11.4 billion of which was taken by Google, while Microsoft's Bing totaled to 2.7 billion searches. It is expected that the top two search engine sites will continue to battle it out for Internet search dominance as the world enters 2013.
