D.Y. PATIL KNOWLEDGE CITY INAUGURATED BY PRANAB MUKHERJEE

Pranab Mukherjee emphasized that innovation was the key to development and that whenever innovation failed, the community as a whole almost always failed. He further added that centres of excellence like the D.Y.Patil Knowledge city would play a key role in ensuring that India moves forward as a ' knowledge based economy'. By 2030, he observed that India would have the youngest population of the world with the largest number of citizens falling below the age group of 25 and that this century would clearly be the century of Asia with India and China leading the revolution. Pranab Mukherjee strongly asserted that Quality and Quantity of education are both equally important .
Dr. Ajeenkya Patil, Chairman, D.Y. Patil Knowledge City , Pune was all praise for the reforms in the education sector and expressed the hope that reservation for the deprived sections of society would also extend to higher education." Education with a philanthropic outlook has been the guiding principle for the D.Y. Patil Group ever since its inception in 1983" stated Dr. Patil." The D. Y. Patil Knowledge city would strongly focus on research and innovation. We aim to be amongst the very best in the world when it comes to centres of excellence in education " added Dr. Ajeenkya Patil.
Prithviraj Chavan, Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, stated that a multi disciplinary environment like the D. Y. Patil Knowledge city would be a catalyst for a knowledge based economy. Conversion of knowledge into wealth is a critical application that would boost the economy of a nation" he observed. The D. Y. Patil Group established by the visionary Padmashree Dr. D. Y. Patil is well known in the Indian diaspora for its interest in education, healthcare, agriculture and sports.
The D.Y. Patil Group has over 180 Institutes of Learning Encompassed in its Three Universities based out of Navi Mumbai, Pune and Kolhapur. The Group also runs Three Hospitals of 2000 beds each providing affordable healthcare to the masses. It also has established the World Class D Y Patil International Cricket Stadium in the city of Navi Mumbai.
Realizing the need of a World Class School andd Higher Education, the group led by Dr. Ajeenkya D Y Patil decided to setup The D Y Patil Knowledge City. Setup under the banner of The Ajeenkya DY Patil Group, the D Y Patil Knowledge City today is a world class campus with state of the art infrastructure housing, a Dental College, two Schools of Engineering, a Management Institute, Architecture College and MCA College. From the next Academic Year they are planning to start a Law College, a hospitality institute and a few more domain specific initiatives.
Today The D Y Patil Knowledge City campus boasts of a vibrant student community of about 2000 students, 300 highly educated and experienced Faculty members and an efficient support staff.
Dr. Ajeenkya D Y Patil strongly believes in the Philosophy of "Love all and Serve all" and through this Institute and many other Institutes that he leads, he is determined to serve the deprived and the needy ones. Offering Education to many at the cost of Rs 1 per year is an example of the steps he has taken towards achieving this mission.
