Kick Start Your Day
We all know how important breakfast is- it fires up the metabolism, provides fuel to your brain and body, helping the concentration and leaving you in a better position to make healthier choices throughout the day.

There are a couple things to aim for when choosing your breakfast:
1- A good source of carbohydrate, such as whole grains or oats. Not only will these provide you with fibre but also a slow and sustained energy release- exactly what you need to keep your energy levels up throughout the day.
2- A source of protein, such as milk, yoghurt, peanut butter or eggs. This will help keep you full, and enable you to control your energy (caloric) intake throughout the day.
People often skip breakfast in an effort to lose weight, however this suppresses your metabolism and research indicates that those that skip breakfast tend to overeat later in the day and in fact carry more weight than those who eat breakfast daily. Aim to eat your breakfast within 1 hour of waking up and if you are not a 'breakfast person', start by eating something small or even a smoothie/protein shake to break your habit to reap the benefits!
Here are a few quick, well-balanced breakfasts that will help you kick-start your day:
-Rolled oats ( or untoasted muesli) with low fat yoghurt & berries.
-Multigrain English muffin with light, natural peanuut butter.
-Soy-linseed toast with low fat cottage cheese & smoked salmon.
-Banana Smoothie: made with 1/2-1 cup skim milk, 2 tablespoon rolled oats, 1/2 frozen banana and a few ice cubes (for extra protein add a scoop of protein powder)- blitz for 30 seconds in the blender.
Here are some other options when you have a little extra time:
-Sourdough toast with 2 eggs, grilled tomato and mushrooms
-Porridge made with: 1/2 cup rolled oats, 1/2 cup rice milk, 3/4 cup water, 1/2 grated apple,2 teaspoons LSA & sprinkle with cinnamon.
-Omelette made with 1 whole egg & 2 egg whites, 1 cup mixed veg(tomato, spinach & mushrooms) with a 1 slice multigrain toast.
