New York, NY (prHWY.com) January 8, 2013 - Helping inner city students with the support they need to reach college has been a life-long goal for Victor E. Acevedo, a dedicated teacher.

Being a dedicated teacher for nearly 20 years, Mr. Acevedo has helped hundreds of students reach college with a variety of programs that he started, other programs that he funded with his own money, or non-profit groups he works with.

"I have been very fortunate to be able to give back to my community and help so many kids," stated Victor E. Acevedo. "I have always wanted to find ways to supporting those students who showed potential but never had the support at home or got lost at school.

Mr. Acevedo worked with students as young as preschool all the way up through college level. Providing early literacy programs to strengthen children's ability to "decode" texts and strengthen comprehension skills. Together, decoding and comprehension would equal an increase in fluency, which is the ultimate goal.

Victor has worked with junior high and high school students who's reading and math skills might have also dropped off since elementary school. "So we've taken student and helped them to strengthen their reading and comprehension skills with a variety of exercises and reading programs. The first rule of thumb is to provide them with interesting and engaging content that is relevant to them. If the kids are bored, then they are going to shut down and stop learning. The idea is to support their interests," stated Victor E. Acevedo.

We've seen a tremendous amount of progress after completing our eight-week programs, stated Mr. Acevedo, who works with parents as a part of the comprehensive program.

"So, we have seen that we also help parents, they also have the confidence to work with their own kids. When they feel confident, parents are more engaged and the more engaged they are the more they value education and feel good about the progress of their children. Ultimately this is a win-win-win situation for everyone - the students win, the parents win, and the community at large wins.

Victor E. Acevedo has seen nearly 400 students these past two years go through the program. For more information on Mr. Acevedo, visit his website at http://www.VictorEAcevedo.com or E-mail us here: contact@victoreacevedo.com
