Methods of portrait painting
Portrait painting is done with the aim to represent some physical appearance of the subject and in this type of painting, the facial expression of the person matters a lot.

Commonly, there are considered two methods for the portrait painting and it is an uphill task to say which one is better. Each method has its pros and cons and it depends on the painter which method he prefers the most. These two methods are described as,
1. Painting from life:
When you paint directly from the life then this thing adds different and vibrant colors to your register and your portrait resembles with the real life pattern. It is said that the life portraits are more penetrating and original then the portraits that are created by having the photographs. But the requirement of good drawing skill is necessary too because if a person is not skilled then he can paint the things as they are in life.
But this method has some disadvantages too. The dark side of this method is that it has inconvenience for the painter because he depends on the model real time for his working and his absence may break his continuity of work. Second thing is that a model can not pose for a long period of time and definitely he has to change his posture so when a model changes his posture then the portrait painter loses the sharpness of feature and portrait gets affected with this situation.
2. Painting using photos: http://www.docoart.com/
It is another method of making a portrait. In this method, portrait is executed by having the different photos of the model. This thing helps to continue the work in the absence of the model and it is the greatest advantage of this method. Painter can select diverse photos and it becomes easy to choose the best image. For this method, the photographic skills and the best equipment is necessary too. This method is preferred by some many people and the reason behind this phenomenon is that the painter has no chance of losing the sharpness of the facial expressions. He can work whenever he wants and his attention does not get diverted.
But this method lacks exposure that is provided by the direct painting from life. These portraits are not as much eye catching as the portraits from the real life are.
In short, these two methods have their own significance and both methods are used by the painters. So it depends on the painter which one he selects.
