Vancouver, Canada (prHWY.com) January 17, 2013 - Recent University of Athabasca graduate Houman Rezazadeh-Azar is pleased to announce that he plans to pursue a career in dentistry. Houman Rezazadeh-Azar is excited to learn more about the field, and have the opportunity to help others through a medical profession.

"I've always been interested in health in general," said Houman Rezazadeh-Azar, "and I think that a career in dentistry will be a unique way to follow that interest and turn it into a career. The health field has always been attractive to me, specifically because it provides a direct avenue into helping people."

While a university student, Houman Rezazadeh-Azar studied a range of science topics. He was a research assistant on a long-term project in the field of neuro-opthamology, and contributed to a publication on population ecology issues affecting fisheries and other marine ecosystems. While they weren't directly related to dentistry, projects like these gave Houman Rezazadeh-Azar the opportunity to hone his research skills, and learn more about making concrete recommendations based on scientific inquiry.

"Studying science definitely gave me the background that I need to succeed in my continued education," reports Houman Rezazadeh-Azar. "Especially while studying Sixth Nerve Palsy in the Opthamology department, I got a very deep understanding of how medical professionals use new scientific data to develop plans for diagnosis and treatment."

Houman Rezazadeh-Azar also has a strong knowledge of how to improve doctor/patient relationships. Inspired by multiple family members' battles with cancer, Houman Rezazadeh-Azar has recently been co-authoring a book for doctors, chronicling the experiences of critically ill patients as they navigate the medical system. Houman Rezazadeh-Azar hopes to integrate this knowledge into his own practice as a dentist in the future.

"I would love to be able to bring change to the medical profession through my own practice," says Houman Rezazadeh-Azar. "Many medical professionals are very good at their own work, but don't necessarily know the best ways to interact with patients in a way that creates a positive environment for people who may be scared or uncomfortable. My own experiences and work on the book have helped me to understand ways that the medical industry can be improved, at least in that particular area."
