Seattle, WA (prHWY.com) January 24, 2013 - People are often willing to take a chance on love, but are they willing to take a chance on who their next date might be? That is exactly what a group of college students are trying to see.

The group of students has teamed up with a company that specializes in creating and manufacturing doors in Phoenix to offer 'Pick a Date'. Pick a Date is designed like the game show 'Let's Make a Deal' where contestants pick what's behind curtains and decide if they want to keep the prize or try for something better.

"This is just like that game", explained James Narrows, a student who is working on the project. "The only difference is instead of curtains we have doors, and instead of prizes we have suitable dates. It's like a matchmaking service, but with a small game show type twist."

The purpose of the group's experiment is to see if people are willing to take a complete and total chance on love. They are studying to see if the idea of people hiding behind doors encourages people to continue their search or if the ability to not see their potential dates discourages them.

"We have a handful of people fill out an extensive survey that asks if they are willing to take a chance on love", explained Narrows. "We then ask them questions about who they think they'd love to date so we can find them suitable matches. Then we invite them onto our show."

The door twist is not explained to the contestants until they appear on the show and is a really important part of the experiment. This part of the experiment tests people's willingness to really take a chance.

"People see the physical door that blocks them from their potential date and it just puts up a mental barrier", explains Summer Willows, another student working on the project. "What we want to discover is why these people feel the need to say one thing, yet they think something else. Many times these people don't even realize they are saying one thing, yet thinking something else."

Some of the show's contestants have seen the doors and opted out, while others keep picking doors so they can see all their choices. Others are up to the challenge and take the first person they pick.

The experiment is expected to last several weeks with the group having tested over 500 people.

"I really have to thank the company that supplies the doors", explained Willows. "Without their support or donations this wouldn't be possible. This company that makes doors in Phoenix was and is a critical part of the study."

The results of the experiment are expected to be completed and presented sometime in June.
