CLASSIC WEDDING DRESS GETS A BOLD INFUSION OF COLOR
Wedding dresses have gone from traditional to outside the box with pink-hued gowns. Celebrities are no stranger to this trend. Rebellious rocker Gwen Stefani wore a pink-and-white concoction by John Galliano to her ceremony in 2002.

After the weddings of best-dressed list fixtures such as Reese Witherspoon, Anne Hathaway and most recently Jessica Biel, who all chose pink for their nuptials, this trend has begun to trickle down the supply chain.
Dan Rentillo, design director for David's Bridal, said pink is here to stay as it becomes more available and is an option for brides who prefer an alternative to white.
"Pink is something brides never considered before because it wasn't an option readily offered," he said.
The main drive toward pink gowns is that some brides just want something different.
"Everyone wants to individualize their wedding. Not everybody likes the same color, so choosing a color like pink makes it their own in a way," Gown House owner Rebecca Morton said.
Morton has seen pink in some styles at her store, both as an all-over color and in elements.
With the tradition of marriage, comes the bride's need to be original and customize with her own fit and flare.
"Brides are always looking for something new and unique, and white can be a little limiting for some, so another way for her to express her individuality is through color," Rentillo said.
David's Bridal has been infusing colors into their assortments by adding elements such as sashes. Since introducing the White by Vera Wang Collection in spring 2011, which featured pink gowns, the next logical step was to offer pink all over in other designs based on the David's Bridal bride response, Rentillo said. "Color did better than expected. Brides are accepting color and prints as well," he said. "The shade is flattering. Pink has always been a very strong fashion color. The feeling is warmer, and brides like to be romantic and feminine for the most part, and it's not too sweet."
Although ivory is still the biggest seller, Rentillo is always looking at what is important and trending in the fashion industry and believes the next set of bridal gowns will follow fashion's path.
"Bridal is an interesting area. It's becoming more fashionable, so we really look at what is going on in fashion and adapt so that our gowns are new, right and relevant," Rentillo said.
Either way, color is going to be a lasting trend in bridal wear.
Both Rentillo and Morton predict gold will be the next big color in bridal that has already begun to show on gowns as embellishments.
Brides going the nontraditional route, "that's just their personality. They want to bring their uniqueness to their pink wedding dress," Morton said.
