Vinay Nayak Wins National Forensic League Championship
Vinay Nayak proudly celebrates winning 1st place in the National Forensic League Championship for Original Oratory.

As the son of Indian immigrants who came to the United States with nothing more than five dollars, Vinay Nayak is in a unique position to understand racial tensions and stereotypes in the United States. Though much progress has been made throughout the years, Vinay Nayak understands that many racial tensions still exist. Vinay Nayak hopes that his speech will play a small part in the larger picture of unifying the people of the United States despite our differences.
Vinay Nayak began the speech poking fun of his own ethnic background, speaking with an Indian accent and saying racially insensitive things. He then proceeded to explain how our society's ears are keenly attuned to anything we perceive as insensitive and how this "societal illness" can be cured. While Vinay Nayak understands that his one speech as a student will not change the face of racial tensions overnight, he hopes that he can play a role in ending racial insensitivity. Vinay Nayak argues that we all play an important part in keeping our society's values in check and ensuring that no one is ostracized because of their ethnicity.
At the age of 19, this isn't the first time that Vinay Nayak has fought for social progress. He is heavily involved in both local and national politics and has even volunteered for Barack Obama's election campaign. During his high school years, Vinay Nayak was a straight A student who tutored many of his peers. Vinay Nayak hopes he can be an example to other young people that hard work is worth the effort of the results it produces. Vinay Nayak hopes to use the speaking skills he has polished as a result of the National Forensic League Championship will be a tool he can use to advance social and political change.
