The Sharjah FM morning show, Al Atheer, recently hosted a special episode aired live from the Juvenile Centre in Sharjah, to shed light on the centre's critical role in the rehabilitation of juvenile delinquents and law-breakers. During the episode, host Aisha Al Ruwaimi interviewed Khalil Al Buraimi, Director of the Juvenile Centre, who spoke in-depth about the existing cases and the social difficulties facing the juvenile delinquents.
"Founded in 1981 as an educational subsidiary of the UAE Ministry of Social Affairs, the Juvenile Centre in Sharjah aims to rehabilitate juvenile offenders and improve their personalities. Most of the existing cases at the center pertain to traffic violations, quarrels, pill abuse, ethical issues and theft," Al Buraimi said. "The centre offers a wide range of rehabilitation programs and activities, including Quran and religious studies, computer courses, workshops and family visits."
'Al Atheer' hosted a number of juvenile delinquents to talk about the reasons behind their behaviour, the turning points in their lives and the dreams and aspirations they wish to achieve. A 13 year old juvenile named "Bu Mohammed" said that he was his class topper in the first five years of school before meeting a group of bad friends online. Bu Mohammed called upon all parents to always keep an eye on their children to avoid falling into such pitfalls and made a promise to his mother to become a better person and take good care of her once he is out. Another 16 year old juvenile nicknamed Bu Nasser, talked about what the centre has taught him, including prayer, fasting, memorization of the Holy Quran and patience, as he wishes to continue his studies after his release.
The episode addressed the major role of parents and the educational industry in reducing juvenile delinquency while raising public awareness to pay better attention to young generations so that they do not make the same mistakes again. The episode generated an overwhelming response from the public via SMS and social networking websites such as Facebook and Twitter, where some suggested airing the episode across all schools in the UAE. A sports bag containing valuable souvenirs from Sharjah Sports Club was distributed to all juveniles at the centre.
'Al Atheer' morning show is one of the most prominent programs of Sharjah FM, which tackles a variety of relevant subjects. It is prepared by Mona Saeed, produced by Ahmed Noor and Abdulaziz Al Mulla, presented by Aisha Al Ruwaimi and supervised by Eng. Hayman Zakariya.
