Zillow Releases Home Improvement Inspiration App Pinterest-Style

Online real estate giant Zillow recently released a new home improvement app called Zillow Digs that looks similar to Pinterest. Read on to find out about this new information marketplace.

London, United Kingdom (prHWY.com) February 7, 2013 - Zillow, the online real estate giant, has just released a new app available on the iPad and as a Web service called Zillow Digs.

The application is said to provide home shoppers and owners alike with visual inspiration when it comes to home improvement.

Closely resembling the style of social networking newbie Pinterest, the company spokesperson stated that the app does not only allow photo browsing, but it actually allows users to make, save and share improvement ideas and décor they love, comment on photographs, and follow individuals with similar interests.

For more than 6 years, Zillow has offered home shoppers real estate information that promoted smart and informed decision making.

Back in October 2012, they also unveiled an iPad app that helped home buyers find home loans and a free website builder for prospective landlords before the holidays.

They also sued online real estate rival Trulia back in September over an alleged patent infringement issue related to their Zestimates product.

Meanwhile, Zillow also unveiled a feature on their new app called Digs Estimates, where an estimated thousands cost of real kitchens and bathrooms on Zillow Digs' ever-increasing photo portfolio can be calculated using its proprietary algorithm.

Zillow CEO, Spencer Rascoff, stated, "Tens of millions of home buyers shop for homes on Zillow each month, and home improvement is a natural next step for us in consumer empowerment and transparency of information to help people make smarter decisions."

"I'm also excited to introduce a revolutionary new tool for consumers: Digs Estimates. This is the first-of-its-kind remodelling cost estimate algorithm was created by Zillow's industry-leading team of economists and data analysts who produce extensive housing data and research."

Aside from inspiring home owners in their remodelling projects, Digs also has features that allow users to find and connect with local professionals, like contractors, architects, and designers, who can help them with their home improvement tasks.

Local professionals can also benefit from the application by creating a free Zillow Digs profile, where they can post their contact information, website details, and photos of past work. They can also market their business by creating Boards, answering questions, and commenting on photos.

With the site's advanced algorithm, Pinterest could be looking at their future rival especially when it comes to home improvement junkies.
