The History
The celebration of Halloween represents the starting of Hallowmas which is a religious celebration of three days- Halloween on the day 1, All Saints Day on Day 2 and All Souls Day on day 3. The name Halloween has originated from "All Hallows Evening" or "All Saints Evening". Halloween is observed on the eve of the All Saints Day and is the day to remember all saints who are known to us and also those who are unknown to us.
The Activities
The children go for trick 'n' treating activity. They dress up in varieties of costumes and visit the various houses in the neighborhood and ask for treats (money or candy) or the trick. The horrifying symbols of the ghosts, devils etc are connected to this day. People dress up like the ghosts, skeletons, devils and there are special masks, dresses and contact lenses available for this occasion. People use varieties of items e.g. pumpkins, corn husks, scarecrows etc to decorate their houses. The images depicting death, devils and monsters are used. Generally orange and black are the two colors that are widely used on Halloween. This day is celebrated along with various types of activities - bonfires, trick 'n' treating, costume parties, creating jack 'o' lanterns and playing different pranks, visiting the horror-theme parks or even watching horror movies
Special Dishes for Halloween 2013
Some special dishes are prepared on this day and like every year, on Halloween 2013; different types of dishes can be prepared for the children and adults both. The regular food items could be decorated in such way that they look unusual and gets the images of various types of devils. For example, people decorate boiled eggs with mayonnaise, cheese and sauce to make it look like a horrific figure. The ingredients that are used to make various dishes are found in abundance during this time .e.g. apples and pumpkins are quite common things used to create pies, cakes and candies. There are jack 'o' lanterns carved from the pumpkins.
