San Diego Golf Club to Host 2013 Farms Collegiate Invitational
Rancho Santa Fe, California (January 17, 2013) - The Farms, one of the most prestigious golf clubs in San Diego, prides itself not just for its highly challenging course but also for its exceptional menu
The title is up for grabs as San Diego State, which won last year's edition, might be skipping the tournament this year. St. Mary's College, the runner-up, is one of the teams expected to win the plum. The Gaels will be bannered by senior Mac McClung and sophomore Jonathan de los Reyes.
Schools that will be returning for another round are San Diego, Missouri, UC Irivine, UC Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, and Fresno State. Some of the new participants this year include Pacific, San Francisco, and UC Riverside.
The Farms is one the elite San Diego private golf courses. It ranked number 14 in a nationwide poll called the "50 Clubs with the Best Players", which was published in the Fall 2008 issue of Golf Digest/Index. Some of their renowned members are PGA/LPGA major championship winners Phil Mickelson, Annika Sorenstam, Liselotte Neumann, Tom Lehman, and Dennis Paulson.
Other tournaments The Farms has played host to include the Southern California Golf Association Four-Ball Championship in 2010 and the NCAA Men's Regional Golf Tournament in 2011. Last year, the club hosted the United States Amateur Sectional Qualifier in July, and, most recently, the Founders Day Invitation Tournament in October.
