Set Your Objectives and Stick to Your Strategies To Guarantee a Successful Trade Show
It's important to prequalify as many attendees as you can because they're only going to visit so many booths, and you want to make sure that yours is at the top of their list.

First, define your objectives. Make it clear what your goals are and what strategies you need to put in place to accomplish those goals. To set solid objectives, you need to set a timetable for accomplishing pre-show tasks, choose the right people, and assign tasks with clearly defined responsibilities. Everything you do must align with how you present your brand, even the promotional products you select to engage your customers. Next, prequalify your target list of prospects and customers. These include your regular customers, people who have attended past shows, and new prospects from your sales team. Scour your list of VIPs, trade associations, even the show registrants. It's important to prequalify as many attendees as you can because they're only going to visit so many booths, and you want to make sure that yours is at the top of their list.
Now, train your booth personnel. You don't need wallflowers or third-party reps who can't speak to your product line. They must be able to qualify leads intelligently and comfortably to maximize your presence at the show. And they must be especially trained to listen before they sell, to know the lookers from the buyers, and to identify your best prospects and customers. With the right personnel in place, their primary goal is to qualify leads and sell. They do this with open-ended questions that solicit conversation and help determine the attendees' needs, questions like, "Which of our products are of special interest to you?" Or, "How can we be of assistance?" So the fifth task is to know when to sit. Never sit down with the chatty Kathys; they'll talk your ear off. You've got five to seven hours on the floor and you're paying megabucks to be there, so make sure that your reps are scheduled to meet with your prequalified prospects on or off the floor, and that without ignoring anyone they spend quality time with your qualified prospects.
