Seattle, WA (prHWY.com) February 12, 2013 - Flying carpets are often thought of as a thing of legend. Fantasy stories and movies depict people jumping on tiny little carpets and flying away. This legendary magical item may be the source of an ancient legend that has made its way around the Phoenix area. The story of Quentin and his amazing flying door has started to make its way around the city.

"The story of Quentin made its way around the Phoenix area in the early 1920s", said local historian Barry Randal. "We have seen a recent increase and interest in this story in the past decade or so."

The legend begins when Quentin discovered an old wooden door in a Phoenix suburb. At the time, this suburb was uninhabited. Quentin was playing around in the deserted area and discovered that the door possessed magical powers. When he jumped on top of it, it twitched a little and soared into the air.

"The legend claims that Quentin traveled around the country and eventually settled in the main city of Phoenix", said Randal. "Some of today's favorite restaurants and shops claim to be a result of that flight on the magical flying door."

The real story behind Quentin and the flying doors in Phoenix is a little less exciting. The real story behind this urban legend in the Phoenix area is a result of a marketing attempt.

"While many Phoenix residents like to believe that this story is some urban legend that really happened. It isn't", said Randal. "The real story behind this legend is that it was a marketing attempt by a local door manufacturer."

The real story behind the Quentin and the flying door begins with the 1920s. Many manufacturers were using new marketing techniques to draw in customers. The Phoenix Ancient Doors Company decided to run an ad over the radio.

"This ad made it sound like a person had just spotted Quentin flying over Phoenix", said Randal. "The person reported to people what the flying door looked like, what he was doing, and where he might be going. This was the 1920s and people didn't know it wasn't real. That was where the story came from and where its roots are."

There is no indication why this urban legend has started to make its round around the Phoenix area. Barry Randal plans on hosting several seminars to discuss the marketing efforts that encouraged this urban legend into exhistance.
