Seattle, WA (prHWY.com) February 12, 2013 - Most people when they hear a winter blizzard is on the way hunker down, stock up on food, and spend the storm in their home. Danny Townhill usually does just that, but a recent winter blizzard took him by surprise and forced him to wait it out in an unusual location - an igloo.

Danny Townhill owns a ranch that is approximately 20 miles away from his main residence. On a dare, he created a small igloo that was made out of tiny replacement windows that are usually used for basements.

"A friend dared me to create an igloo on the ranch", said Danny Townhill. "He thought it would be something funny and would get people buzzing about the odd igloo structure on the ranch. He didn't realize that it would save my life one day."

While working on the ranch, Danny didn't notice that a huge cold front was moving in. That cold front brought with it blizzard-like conditions, non-stop snowfall for 5 days, and freezing cold temperatures.

"I knew a blizzard was coming", explained Townhill. "I didn't think it was going to come at that point in time. The TV people said that it wouldn't arrive until Sunday, but it actually came here on Thursday and took me by surprise."

Danny Townhill was trying to tend to things on the ranch when the storm blew in. Unable to make the 20 mile drive to his residence, Townhill sought shelter in the igloo that he built.

"The igloo I built was the closest place of shelter I could find", explained Townhill. "I ran into that place and it kept me safe, warm, and out of the blizzard."

Experts believe that Danny Townhill was able to survive his five day stay in the igloo due to the warmth provided by the replacement windows. The replacement windows were designed to keep the cold out and heat inside, while surviving the harsh winter elements.

"The windows allowed Danny Townhill to keep warm in the igloo even without a main source of heat", explained a survival expert. "Essentially, his body heat was creating the warmth inside. In addition to that, Townhill was able to cut a hole in the top of the igloo and build a fire. That helped a lot and heated the entire igloo up."

Danny Townhill is safe at home. He plans on writing a book about his time surviving the elements.

"There was a lot of time to be reflective and think on things", explained Townhill. "I think it is an interesting story and want to share it with the world."
