Las Vegas, NV (prHWY.com) February 16, 2013 - In Civil engineering, the length of a beam is marginally cut down for enclosing at the top of a beam a small radius arc to achieve the required compression, while the length at the bottom of the beam is stretched to enclose a larger radius arc under tension. The radial arc of bending of the beam equals the original length of the beam.

In various structural analysis methods, the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory is applied, which is a simplification of the theory of elasticity, and was applied in a major way before the construction of the Eiffel Tower and the Ferris wheel. However, the Perry Robertson formula is applicable currently, particularly for the development of European design codes. The Euler-Lagrange equation currently fits the dynamic beam equation in special cases.

Till the 19th century, the civil engineering profession was mingled with architecture. Thus, a few professionals are licensed both as civil and structural engineers. The usage of cement and concrete has been used alternatively, but concrete has been used in many structures including Burj Khalifa, Panama Canal and Hoover Dam in the past.

The OMICS journal of Civil and environmental engineering focuses on the latest developments in the concerned discipline, through manuscript submissions by eminent engineers. The journals follow an Open Access Policy in which the content can be transmitted and copied for free, without any kind of manipulation. Learners and academicians can become part of the editorial board for peer-review of the articles. The aim of OMICS Group is to make research literature freely available for learners and academicians.

Concrete is cited as having a negative effect on environmental safety measures, though the effects are not completely negative. On the positive side, as concrete can provide energy efficient housing as it has low permeability and high thermal mass. Concrete is reinforced with steel as the tensile strength is low, though it has a relatively high compressive strength. Concrete which is wet should be handled with proper equipment, as it is highly alkaline.

The building demolition and structure collapse results in concrete dust, which can result in dangerous pollution and affect the ecosystem. In this context, the role of environmental engineering comes into the picture to protect from health concerns. The efforts are meant to prevent toxicity and radioactivity due to the presence of additives.

Municipal solid waste is collected for recycling by a biosphere facility at the rate of 5-8 tons per hour. Various compost production items, plastics, metals, rubber and glass are sorted from the compost. Each receiving line sorts the stock into two feedstock streams at 30 tons per hour after useful components are sorted. The biosphere flakes are heated to generate steam for turbines at 1000 C. The major breakthroughs in this practice are discussed in the OMICS journal of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

The Civil and Structural analysis also takes into account the specialized knowledge of structural theories formed since the past 200 years that witnessed the evolution and metamorphosis of professional techniques used for erecting structures with a planned and calculated approach, based on the work to develop stable columns, floors and beams of a building.

The OMICS Publishing Group, based in the US, aims at sharing scientific knowledge by publication of research articles in journals, organizing international conferences, and developing eBooks for free availability of knowledge to the scientific learners and researchers.
