Shilpgram Utsav turns out to be a great crowdpuller for tourist at Khajuraho

"Lok Folk", The Shilpgram Utsav organized by SCZCC is a great hit among the foreign and domestic tourist and the center has plans to extend show for next year after witnessing positive response from art lovers.

Nagpur, India (prHWY.com) February 23, 2013 - It has been an eventful week for organizers from South Central Zone Cultural Centre (SCZCC) as they received an overwhelming response from Indian and foreign tourists for the ongoing cultural fest "Lok folk" at Khajuraho. The SCZCC Nagpur has organized a 9 day cultural celebration and they named it "Lok folk" which literally means "the art of people".

The Director of SCZCC,Nagpur, Mr Ravinder Singal stated "After experiencing the enthusiasm and the involvement of the foreign visitors at the "Lok folk", the tribal and folk dances festival at Shilpgram, Khajuraho and the appreciation and the way the visitors danced and interacted with the artisans and the artist, has really raised our expectations and hence we have decided that the next edition of "Lok folk", would be conducted for a longer duration at a bigger scale sometime in the beginning of February, 2014."

The show starts every day at 1 P.M. and so do the various stalls and shops for the visitors. Indian Handicraft is one of major attractions of the show where the India's famous craftsmen have reached with their valuable works. Nadeem, a woodworker from Hyderabad has displayed his wooden artifacts; Manoj from Delhi is present with his impressive Guajarati handicrafts in the fair. Abdul Hakim's Lac bangles and Gopal Bhaskar's elegant bridal jewelleries are the centre of attraction for women. The Kantha Garments of Mafuja begum from Shantiniketan (West Bengal) is becoming very much popular amongst foreign visitors.

The beautiful Baiga tribal arts by Avinash Rao from Umaria (M.P), Khadi garments of Mohammed Jakir from (Merrut, U.P), Glassworks by Suresh Kumar from Ferozabad , dryflowers from Suparna Haldar and Jute works by Somnath Basak from Kolkata are successfully attracting the visitors and making themselves noticed.

Acrobats from Rajasthan are reminding us of the simple lifestyle and way of recreation in Indian villages. A twelve foot tall acrobat is most ubiquitous and popular among them. Many artists are assuming various forms to allure visitors and few of them can be seen in colorful outfits of mythological Gods and characters like Shiva, Narada and Ravana or sometimes as Bollywood characters to entertain the visitors.

Folk music and Kacchi Ghodi dance of Rajasthan are among best of the performing arts. This festival will be conducted till 25th February depicting the rich cultural and folk heritage of India.
The tribal handicraft workshop named "UDDAN" is also going on side by side with this fair. This workshop gives unique opportunity to understand distinct tribal cultural milieu, artwork and their day to day lifestyle.

Shilpgram is situated over an area of 23 Acres at Khajuraho, known for its temple architecture and erotic sculptures. The facilities and infrastructure provided at Shilpgram are 60 permanent work sheds, open air theatre, sales and exhibition emporium, dormitories etc. The structures and the landscapes have been designed architecturally so as to integrate the concept of Shilp (craft) and the experience of Gram (village). The "Lok Folk" at Shilpgram, Khajuraho is becoming very popular amongst the tourists wherein they are getting chance to buy various traditional artifacts. Through Lok folk the effort of SCZCC has been to popularize the folk and tribal art forms of different parts of India.
