Worcestershire, United Kingdom (prHWY.com) February 27, 2013 - 2013 brings with it new trends in the cruise ship industry, covering speciality food offerings, multi-generational group activities, and innovative on-board amenities - including aqua parks to glass walkways.

Carolyn Spencer Brown, editor of CruiseCritic.com, stated that among the new ships that will début on 2013, the Norwegian Breakaway which launches in May and the Princess Cruises' Royal Princess which launches in June are among the hottest and most anticipated to date.

Scheduled for delivery on April 2013, Norwegian Cruise Lines' Breakaway will have an on-board open air quarter-mile board walk and an aqua park that will include double free fall and multi-story water slides. Home ported in New York, the ship will carry over 4,000 guests on seven-day cruises to the Bahamas, Bermuda, and Florida from May through April.

The Royal Princess, on the other hand, will be featuring a jogging track, a sea walk, and a glass-bottom walkway that extends to 28 feet over the ship's edge. It is scheduled to be finished on June 2013 and will be carrying over 3,600 passengers from Southampton, England to Spain, Portugal, and the Mediterranean.

Other cruise ships to watch out for include the Crystal Symphony which will début in September with a plant-covered wall that is over 7.9 feet high; the Celebrity Reflection which will have a glass veranda wrapped around the ship's edge; and the Carnival Cruise Lines that will offer quality game shows, 3-D films with motion seats, and special effects that involve wind and water.

The food options in the ships have also been up-scaled.

Disney's Dream and Fantasy, for example, have begun offering champagne brunch worth $50 at the Remy since October. Michelin-starred French chef, Arnaud Lallement, has created dishes for the adult-only restaurant.

Celebrity chef Jacques Pepin is doing a cooking demonstration on-board Oceania's Riviera ship. There will also be a Q&A section as well as meet-and-greets with him on his namesake restaurant, Jacques.

Cruise ship newbie, the Norwegian Breakaway, will also be offering anything, from Brazilian-style steakhouses to Asian noodle bars.

While fewer cruise ships are being welcomed this year, many existing liners are doing massive renovations that include adding new spaces to accommodate the fastest growing segment in the industry, which is the multi-generational groups.

Since cruises are marketed as the perfect vacation for the whole family, cruise line companies are finding ways to offer on-board activities for children and adults.

Many ships have expanded their areas for youth activities while creating more adult-only areas, like pools and relaxation spots called serenity spaces.
