Los Angles, CA (prHWY.com) March 6, 2013 - Functional Genomics as a means of evaluating phenotype varies from more traditional techniques primarily with respect to the scale and automated of scientific research and the application of global (genome-wide or system-wide) experimental techniques to evaluate gene function by making use of the information and reagents offered by structural genomics.

Comparative Genomics is the research and evaluation of genomes from different species. The objective is to obtain a better knowing of how species have evolved and to determine the function of genes and non-coding regions of the genome. Comparative genomics includes the use of computer programs that can line up several genomes.

Is Comparative Genomics relates to Functional Genomics:
Functional and Comparative Genomics Researchers have discovered a lot about the function of human genetics by examining their alternatives in simpler model organisms such as the mouse. Genome scientists look at many different functions when evaluating genomes: sequence similarity, gene location, the length and number of coding regions (called exons) within genetics, the amount of non-coding DNA in each genome, and extremely conserved regions maintained in organisms as simple as bacteria and as complex as humans.

Pharmacogenomics is the research of how genes affect a person's response to drugs. This relatively new area combines pharmacology (the technology of drugs) and genomics (the research of genes and their functions) to create effective, secure medicines and amounts that will be designed to a person's genetic makeup.

Benefits of Pharmacogenomics are:
* Help your doctor to provide appropriate dosing information.
* Help your doctor to choose the most effective and safest drug for you.
* Decrease in health care costs associated with side effects and drug interactions.

Conclusion:
Pharmacogenomics combines many different fields Genetics, genomics, molecular biology, pharmacology, toxicology. The current developments in Pharmacogenomics are Laboratory Pharmacogenomics testing, case-specific genetic testing, and race-based medications.
