Five Star Studio Teaches Cha-Cha to Indianapolis Dance Enthusiasts

A dance that originated in Cuba in the 1940s, cha-cha is one of the world's famous Latin ballroom numbers. It is characterized by vivacious and playful moves that fuel passion and energy among both performers and audiences. It was initially developed as a variant of the mambo and rumba.
Like the salsa, cha-cha is highly popular on the floor for its easy steps and fast pace combined with Cuban hip motion. This is a distinctive way of moving the hips up and down in sync with consistent bending and straightening of the knees. Five steps are danced to four beats, giving rise to the "one, two, cha cha cha" rhythm.
Born in Havana, Cuba, this Latin dance first gained significant popularity across Great Britain before the taking the ballroom community worldwide by storm. At present, the term cha-cha refers to its American form while cha cha cha refers to its international version.
Though best danced to Cuban music, its versatility makes it popular in other music genres like country and hip hop. Some of its most popular fundamental triple steps include the Cha-Cha Chasse, Hockey Stick, Manita a Mano, New York Bus Stop, and El Paseo, among many others.
