Karen Jones Meadows Set To Perform "Harriet's Return" At the Wright Museum
Karen Jones Meadows will be performing her play "Harriet's Return: Based Upon the Legendary Life of Harriet Tubman.

More than just a biography or social commentary, "Harriet's Return" is a narrative of personal transcendence and reclamation. "I want people to feel empowered by Harriet's story," explains creator and actress Karen Jones Meadows. "Harriet is the prism through which we can examine our own desires and aspirations for freedom." Following slavery through reconstruction, the play provides striking insight into the historical context of Tubman's life.
While the play traces racial issues throughout history, Meadows asserts that it is geared towards a universal audience. "I've found over the years that everyone is enslaved by something, whether it be family, circumstance, or ourselves. In that sense, Harriet's story is an exercise in introspection for all of us. Audience members are forced to ask--what is it that's holding me back? How can I set myself free?"
