The Wraith: Rolls-Royce's 12V-Powered Coupe Is Now Out
The latest car from Rolls-Royce, considered the most powerful among its class, has been unveiled. While the Wraith bears a resemblance to the Continental GT, Bentley doesn't see it as a competitor.

seconds, the coupe is definitely one powerful ride. It is priced at roughly £200,000 (or $300,000). The new model will be out in the market by the end of the year.
Designed as the car buyers' notion of what a luxury car brand is, Torsten Muller-Otvos, chief executive officer of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Ltd, expressed his confidence that more people will be drawn
to the latest model.
Set for official launch next week, those who had the chance to see it behind the black curtain said that the Wraith was similar to Bentley's Continental GT.
Mr Muller-Otvos said that he didn't consider both auto makes and models as rivals. He commented, "I wouldn't see the Continental as a competitor, definitely not. We are operating in a different
price segment, well beyond £200,000."
He also added that more people think the Continental has lost its exclusivity. And if several car buyers go for the Wraith, it would not be a surprise.
"But I'm startled to hear they don't think Bentley is luxurious", he said while showcasing the redesigned Flying Spur, a few days before its official unveiling.
Stuart Rose, in-charge of Bentley's sales and marketing, said that it is most likely that owners who have around six to seven cars will be purchasing both models.
The board member also added that if rivalry does exist, it is a friendly one. He noted that the price tags of both cars are about £130,000.
Perhaps, if the Wraith is really taking over the territory of the Continental GT, buyers will have an unobjectionable option over Rolls-Royce's Ghost. The GT is considered a luxury yet sporty car.
The old Flying Spur was somewhat similar with the Continental GT but the model now is relatively new, with no link to Bentley's car model.
For Mr. Rose, the two cars are different although both dominate their class. He said that the new model from Rolls-Royce is for the buyers of ultra-luxurious cars, while their car is more dominant
in its market. Comparative sales showed that Bentley sold 8510 cars while Rolls-Royce was behind with 3,575 the previous year.
With Bentley's sale increase of 22% last year after a 37% rise in 2011 and 11% in 2010, the carmaker's sales have skyrocketed in the past months as opposed to Rolls-Royce's performance.
Muller-Otvos is still confident that the emergence of capable buyers with high net worth will put the Wraith high up in its class as an ultra-luxury car.
He also said that the car was built to give Rolls Royce a new facet since it has been selling the less powerful Ghost and Phantom models. The V12-powered Wraith will be the one to change that.
The chief executive remarked, "I wouldn't be surprised if even Ferrari drivers, tired of cars that are not comfortable enough for everyday driving, would switch".
Finally, he said that the Wraith is not to be taken as a sporty car but more of a laidback guy's gran turismo.
