Salt Lake City, UT (prHWY.com) March 15, 2013 - Our veterans have worked hard to support and protect our country. It is through this understanding that so many Americans support different projects and organizations that help veterans in their own time of need. In some cases, former soldiers are so haunted by their experiences that they receive therapy for years.

"There are different forms of therapy veterans receive. I am a strong advocate for group and pet therapies. I am particularly fond of recreational therapy," says Eric Butera. His belief in the effectiveness of recreational therapy is so strong, that he made it his major at the University of Utah.

In his studies, Eric Butera found that recreational therapy promotes more than a greater appreciation for oneself. He learned that recreational therapy benefits people in five important facets. It promotes psychological, physical, social, spiritual, and cognitive health. "Therapy is all about increasing and promoting a person's well-being, that is what I hope to bring to people," says Eric Butera.

While he studies the benefits of recreational therapy, Eric Butera took advantage of an internship in the summer of 2012. "My small internship took place in Grass Valley, California's Kissler Ranch. I participated in rock climbing and rope climbing," says Eric Butera. The training he received was also directed towards small and large groups to, "build self-confidence and self-worth."

Eric Butera encourages the form of therapy that works best for each individual. "People are diverse and therefore no single therapy will work for every person," says Eric Butera. The benefit that Eric Butera sees about recreational therapy is its diversity. "There are a number of activities that fall under the umbrella of recreational activities including sports, but also crafts, dance and structured adventures," says Eric Butera. The diversity of activities is why Eric Butera sees deems it beneficial to veterans.
