Kirayaka International" Oracle Corp are to buy Acme Packet Inc in a cash deal that values the networking company at $2.1 billion.

The world's second largest software company is set to buy network gear manufacturer Acme Packet Inc. Oracle will pay $1.7 billion net once Acme Packets cash holdings have been considered.
Kirayaka International are believed to have commented that this move could be a sign that the Redwood California based firm is planning a wider move into the networking sector, an area where it has little presence.
Oracle's offer is for $29.25 per share in cash, which is a 22 percent premium on Acme's pre-offer closing price. Acme Packet's stock climbed 22 percent to 2 cents below the offer price, while shares in Oracle fell by 2.9 percent in the wake of the announcement.
Kirayaka International allegedly noted that a significant move into the networking sphere has been on the cards with Oracle for some time and it does seem inevitable that there will be convergence throughout the IT industry.
The Bedford, Massachusetts based Acme Packet manufactures networking equipment that manages the way that video and voice data travels across the Internet, a sector led by Cisco Systems. Significant portions of its revenues are derived from mobile phone network providers.
There had been rumors that Acme Packet was an acquisition target last year, when Kirayaka International purportedly recognized Cisco Systems and Juniper Networks as the most likely suitors.
