Petaling Jaya, Malaysia (prHWY.com) March 20, 2013 - As of 17th January 2013, the Indian government will hike up visa fees for British citizens, from £42.20 to £82. Understandably, the news has caused tour operators from all over India to brace for impact. The operators are concerned that the significant fee increase will mean fewer British tourists in India.

At present, the Indian High Commission in the UK only accepts visa applications through India Visa Application Centres (IVACs). This means an additional £10 application fee. Amrit Singh, Managing Director of TransIndus, said, "It's bizarre. There has been no consultation at all. It's quite significant, it's almost £100 and then if a client wants us to organise it for them it's another £30," she said.

Rajeev Manral, Tour Manager for Indus Tours and Travel Ltd. shares the concern, adding, "Clients are going to find it on the high side. It will have an impact on tourism to India. Especially because with a British passport you can travel to many countries for free without a visa. I am sure there will be some repercussions." Travel companies and operators are expected to take up the issue with the Indian High Commission and would lobby to have the increase revised or delayed.

Other than preparing to pay more for an Indian visa, travelers can also gear up for their trip by learning how to get visas quickly and easily. eVisaAsia has prepared a concise guide applicable for British citizens. The guide is based on the suggested time required to apply for a tourist visa in certain countries, they are - No advanced planning, Three-day preparation, and Two-week preparation.
