Chicago, CA (prHWY.com) March 21, 2013 - TheUrbanShopper.com is calling for submissions for a Kwanzaa Culinary Contest. Amateur cooks and professional chefs alike are encouraged to submit tasty Kwanzaa-inspired recipes for inclusion in an e- cookbook. Three category winners will be named co-publishers of the resulting cookbook, aptly called the Kwanzaa Kitchen, and share in the proceeds from its sale.

Online entries are now being accepted. All received entries will be evaluated by students from the Culinary Education Institute in New York City, with all qualified submissions included in the book. Recipes may be submitted in 3 categories: Appetizer, Main Dish and Dessert. Multiple submissions are encouraged. Recipes will be judged on taste, creative use of ingredients, dish photo, and a brief statement about how recipe celebrates the Kwanzaa holiday and spirit of African-American culture.

Ten finalist recipes will be prepared in New York City and tasted by a quality panel of judges to determine three category winners. A national TV personality will serve as the head judge for the finalist entries judging.

The contest helps to strengthen and enrich the Kwanzaa Holiday through the culinary arts. The Kwanzaa principle of Ujima guides the contest's purpose, method and reward. Other Ujima projects are planned for Kwanzaa enrichment by TheUrbanShopper.com.

According to publisher Marla Currie, "We did an article about energizing Kwanzaa last month and this initiative puts our words into action. A cooking contest that culminates in an ebook is a fun and exciting way to collectively breathe new energy into Kwanzaa through creativity and commercialism. We hope the recipes in the book become an integral part of the accepted and practiced food ways of the Kwanzaa tradition", Currie adds.

Folks who think that they have a good recipe and can sell us on how and why it relates to Kwanzaa are encouraged to participate. "Your favorite recipe will be memorialized in a cookbook and you could become a book publisher. That's pretty cool when you think about it," notes Currie.

For more details and Official Rules are available on the Kwanzaa Kitchen website. Please visit http://www.theurbanshopper.com/kwanzaa. Online entry only.

About: Kwanzaa Culinary Contest is the first initiative launched under the Ujima Project, a series of Kwanzaa holiday enrichment initiatives sponsored by TheUrbanShopper.com, the Shopping Lifestyle and Values web magazine.
