London, United Kingdom (prHWY.com) March 25, 2013 - The military kit has been a soldier's best friend and worse nightmare for centuries. In normal conditions it contains all the necessary equipment an infantry soldier would require to survive and navigate the rough terrain of combat. In reality the array of items a soldier is required to carry can amount to a real burden that needs to be carried even if some objects never get used. Although today's technological advancements have been able to give soldiers the upper edge when it comes to night vision and GPS tracking, some basic items such as ammunition, clothing and rations cannot be replaced or down sized. If anything, soldier modernization has added extra weight to the load each man has to carry in order to insure optimal logistics for any type of terrain. However, compared to the men that served during the two World Wars, soldiers today have available the fruits of a billion dollar industry that never stops developing new technologies and systems to make missions as efficient and safe as possible.

The success of a tactical mission depends highly on a soldier's ability to cover ground with stealth and ease of mobility so the question of an efficient and light weight military kit still puzzles army engineers to this day. Is it really possible to give soldiers all the equipment they need with the added bonus of maneuverability? Soldiers go through a few rough months of basic training designed to make them stronger, more alert and fighting fit but a heavy load can affect their abilities.

Carrying a bulky military kit over miles and miles of rough terrain or jungle can translate into injuries and impairment for otherwise able bodied men. New technologies and developments in communication and surveillance can offer the upper edge in battle but an army is first and foremost reliant on its infantry and as this is comprised of people who have physical limitations. However, engineers have not been able to develop a system that can replace man in combat entirely, therefore soldier modernization projects today are focused on making equipment more practical and efficient.

One perfect example of a light weight military kit is the Land Warrior. Fifteen years of trials and developments in soldier modernization have managed to bring the weight of the kit to around 10 pounds of useful and highly technical fighting solutions. A helmet and protective gear is included with the computer and satellite navigation system to give a soldier enhanced tactical perception. This military kit also contains weapons and systems for digital and voice communication, first aid items, rations and other individual equipment objects.

Time will tell if this system will make the leap from trial to operational but if an application in real battle will become possible then soldier modernization will have succeeded in creating the digital infantry, a force to be reckoned with that can communicate more efficiently and dominate the surroundings at download speed.
