Sunnyvale, CA (prHWY.com) March 29, 2013 - Here are some key highlights of the guidelines compiled by the International HR and Payroll services team at Nair & Co.
Key highlights of the Hong Kong budget prepared by the international tax services team at Nair & Co.

* It is mandatory for all employers, regardless of sector, to organize this training for all employees who fall under the purview of OHSA and who come under the terms "worker" and "supervisor" (including office employees and those in low safety risk jobs).
* Under the updated guidelines, new employees must receive the training immediately after starting their work duties and supervisors must complete the "supervisory safety awareness training" within the first week of starting work.
* New employees and supervisors will be exempt from the training if they provide proof of having received the safety awareness training via a previous employer. Nair & Co.'s global HR services group can provide you the detailed information about Occupational Health and Safety guidelines globally and offer you guidance on employee liability issues.
* For certain employees with specific work profile, employers will also be required to provide additional safety training tailored to their job.
* For supervisors, the MOL is still finalizing the safety awareness training material.

Required Content of Training

* Employers who use their own training materials must ensure that the material covers at a minimum:
* Roles of the Ministry of Labor, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, and Health and safety partners.
* Clear statements about the employer's obligation to provide information and instruction to workers about controlled products as required under Regulation 860 (WHMIS) of the OHSA.
* Rights and responsibilities of workers and supervisors as provided in the OHSA.
* Clearly defined roles of joint health and safety committees, workplace parties and health and safety representatives.
* Details on hazard recognition and the rights of employees to be informed of hazards.
* Guidelines related to latency and illness related to occupational disease.
If the safety awareness training imparted to workers and supervisors does not include all of the above topics and is not "equivalent" to the training program developed by the MOL, it will not qualify to meet the new safety training requirements. This applies to trainings that may have been previously organized.

Our International HR and Payroll services advises employers to:
* Spot and fill training gaps in current programs. Legal counsels from Nair and Co.'s Global HR services team can assist.
* Review existing training documentation and audit all employee data to ensure there is proof that training is compliant and already done.
* Ensure that proper documentation is kept in place for all future trainings.
