BMW released a PSA that warns against texting and driving

Tenafly, IL (prHWY.com) July 12, 2011 - Cell phones have added considerable convenience and luxury to lives of millions across the world and have certainly made communication much easier. Along with all the benefits of cell phone devices, however, comes the deadly hazard that cell phones have created as many drivers have become far too cavalier in multitasking with their cell phones while on the roads.

In a newly released Public Safety Announcement, BMW encourages drivers, specifically parents, to increase safe driving practicing by avoiding texting or reading texts while driving. Each BMW dealership takes great pride in providing luxurious and safe vehicles for drivers, and improving drivers' safety is an ongoing goal.

For those unfamiliar with the practice of text messaging, they are brief messages often limited to 160 characters that can be sent from one phone to another. The ability to quickly send and receive these short messages has been embraced globally as an estimated 2.5 billion texts messages are sent per day in the United States alone. Unfortunately, texting has become such a typical part of every day life that drivers feel they can read and reply to text messages while driving. The problem has gotten so bad that lawmakers have decided to step in.

As of today, text messaging while driving is banned in 30 states. Englewood BMW takes pride in contributing to safer roads. BMW's campaign to promote awareness of the dangers of texting while driving is certainly not the solution to the problem, but it is an important step in informing drivers of the danger and irresponsibility of texting behind the wheel.
