Toyota's commercial truck brand will offer hybrid models by the end of the year

What consumers may find most interesting is the electric motor, which gets its power from a 288-volt nickel-metal-hybrid battery pack that has been utilized in the Lexus LS600hL. The Hino hybrid trucks will also feature engine shutoff at idle and brake-regeneration systems.

While the hybrid technology will not enable the commercial trucks to achieve a fuel economy worthy of Prius comparison, it increases by about 30 percent.
