By 2013, Renault-Nissan plans to have the ability to produce 500,000 electric vehicles and batteries in eleven factories located across eight countries. Ghosn went on to say that other automakers plan to produce only 10 to 30,000 electric vehicles within the next two years. He would like Renault-Nissan to dominate the electric vehicle market.

The Nissan LEAF is the first of the planned Renault-Nissan electric vehicles. Nissan has sold 7200 of these cars worldwide to date but expects to deliver many more in the near future. The United States expects to receive about 10,000 LEAF units this year. By 2014, Nissan plans to introduce three more models and Renault hopes to offer four by the end of 2012. Ghosn believes that there is demand for electric vehicles and he would like his company to be the one to meet that demand.
