BOTOX® injections are one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures. It is also perhaps the best known and most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure. Botox® injection cosmetic contains botulinum toxin in a purified, injectable form that is used in cosmetic medical procedures to relax facial muscles. Because of its ability to prevent facial muscles from tightening and creating creases, Botox® injections have become highly popular for treating forehead and brow lines, as well as other types of facial wrinkles. Botox® may also help in reducing profuse underarm perspiration. BOTOX® injection is a very simple process that can be accomplished in about 10-30 minutes, depending upon the amount injected and number of desired treatment areas. Botox is the best brand name of a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. In large amounts, this toxin can cause botulism, which you probably associate with food poisoning.

As stated above, BOTOX® injection is a very simple process that can be accomplished in about 10-30 minutes, depending upon the amount injected and number of desired treatment areas. A topical anesthetic is used to numb the areas to be injected; then small amounts of BOTOX® are injected into predetermined areas with a thin needle. There is some pain or discomfort associated with the injections themselves, however, this is usually slight and does not persist after the injection process has taken place. Botox is made from Botulinum toxin. Botulinum toxin is normally known for its ability to cause a type of food poisoning called botulism that can be contracted from improper handling of meat products. However, in Botox, the botulinum toxin is diluted to a safe level for injection into humans. To manufacture it, the bacteria clostridium botulinum is allowed to develop and spore, and this causes the neurotoxin responsible for the paralysis of the muscles. Once the spores form, they emit the Botulinum toxin which can then be collected. The botulinum toxin is then so diluted that little of the actual toxin itself can be injected into the body. BOTOX® works by paralyzing the muscles in your face. Skin that cannot move cannot form lines and wrinkles.
